What is it about?
As part of the Magdeburg Developer Days, we are offering a free AI workshop for SAP ABAP systems at short notice. Acting fast pays off. The number of participants is limited.
The Magdeburg Developer Days (MDD for short) are a conference for software developers organized by the community. Traditionally, the MDD begin with a workshop day, followed by two conference days.
We - the Brandeis team - are known for our commitment to the community. We had the opportunity at short notice to organize a full-day event as part of the MDD. We couldn't refuse and want to give it a try on short notice.
In this workshop we focus on "Headless Apps". Headless is a new buzzword and refers to applications that are operated solely through an AI chatbot.
How does it work technically? What does it feel like? Which scenarios could actually work?
That is exactly what we want to discuss together with you in this workshop. We will present the theoretical foundations, show you the technology behind it, and let you get hands-on with some of our examples. After that, we switch into creative mode: in teams, you can develop your own ideas and then present them to the others.
Of course, at this community event, knowledge exchange and networking are the main focus. If you bring your own SAP systems, you can even show some of the examples to your colleagues after the workshop.
If you like, you can also join the SAP Stammtisch Magdeburg in the evening.
Focus and target audience
Our focus for this workshop is AI chatbot-based applications for end users in the SAP environment. Our emphasis is on ABAP-based SAP systems: SAP ECC, S/4HANA (On-Premise and Private Cloud).
The target audience is developers, consultants, or other people from the SAP project environment with a technical interest. Feel free to come as a team of 2-4 people!
We are planning a mix of the well-known Brandeis trainings enriched with elements from workshops and hackathons. So, in addition to the theoretical foundations and hands-on exercises you are used to from us, there will be plenty of interaction and teamwork.
Contents and agenda
The MDD workshops are scheduled from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The doors at the AMO Magdeburg open at 8:00 AM and the day can start with a breakfast buffet.
As part of this AI workshop, we will show content from our upcoming AI trainings. In addition, ABAP developers present can take a look at MCP servers in ABAP and perhaps even implement their own MCP tools in SAP ABAP during the workshop.
We hope this workshop will provide valuable feedback to make our future AI trainings even better. Together with you, we also want to test whether such an interactive format works and is accepted not only by developers. And of course we want to discuss together whether we should take Headless seriously in the SAP environment.
The AI workshop starts at 9:00 AM with the following planned contents:

Tip: Also on 2026-05-18 starting at 6:30 PM, there is a SAP Stammtisch Magdeburg, to which you are of course also warmly invited. You can find information about it here.
Bring Your Own System
We have designed the workshop so that you can follow along with the scenarios we show yourself. It is not a must, but this way you are not just a spectator and can even show some things to your colleagues later. So bring your laptops on which you can install something if needed.
If you bring your SAP systems (development systems, of course), you can even reproduce more complex AI scenarios with your own SAP systems.
What exactly you need and what you can prepare in advance will be explained after registration. We offer a preparatory virtual session in which we check the prerequisites in advance and can help you with the setup if needed.
If you cannot meet all the prerequisites, we will try to find a suitable group for you.
Registration
Please register by email with the subject "KI Workshop MDD" to joerg.mueller@brandeis.de if you would like to come to the AI workshop.
The following information in the email is helpful for our planning:
- In which role are you coming to the workshop (e.g. ABAP developer, consultant, end user)?
- Are you bringing your own SAP system?
- Can you install something on your laptop?
- Are you coming as a team?
- Notes on catering
- Other questions
To clarify or ensure the technical prerequisites, we offer a virtual meeting in advance. More information after registration.
You would have to arrange travel and accommodation yourself.
Venue and accommodation recommendations
The workshop takes place at the AMO Kulturhaus Magdeburg at Erich-Weinert-Straße 27: Google Maps link. The main train station and the city center are about a 30-minute walk away. There are several hotels in the city center around the main station.
If you want to join the SAP Stammtisch in the evening, the Hotel Ratswaage or the Motel One at Domplatz are recommended.
Other questions
Do I need a ticket for the conference?
No, you do not need a conference ticket for the workshop. However, you must be registered with us. If you also want to attend the Magdeburg Developer Days starting Tuesday, you need a conference ticket: https://www.md-devdays.de/ticket-overview
Do I need a subscription for Claude, OpenAI ChatGPT, or similar?
Whatever you have, you have. For our workshop you do not need to sign up for a paid subscription. Most of you will have Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, or similar for work or private use, which are sufficient for some hands-on exercises.
In the workshop we want to show you that a local AI can often be sufficient for testing. You can prepare this by installing GPT4All (https://www.nomic.ai/gpt4all) and LM Studio (https://lmstudio.ai/) on your laptops in advance and downloading a few newer models such as Nvidia Nemotron, Google Nemotron, Ministral, etc. (tooling and reasoning are important). The smaller models are sufficient for our purposes.
Where can I park at the AMO?
There are paid parking spaces on both sides next to the AMO.
Which public transport stops are nearby?
The AMO/Steubenallee stop is in the immediate vicinity of the AMO Magdeburg. Alternatively, with a bit of a walk, "Magdeburg-Buckau" (regional transport connection) and "Am Fuchsberg" would also be possible.
