AI Workshop: Headless Apps with SAP ABAP

Most AI projects fail. The figure of 95% is often cited.

The reasons are often similar: expectations that are too high, a lack of experience, a lack of application scenarios, or a lack of methodology.

This is exactly where our AI workshop comes in. We want to explain AI in an understandable way, make it tangible in practice, and work together with you to find out how AI scenarios can be successfully used in the SAP ABAP environment.

Through this workshop, participants will be able to explain the relevant AI fundamentals and set up their own prototypes with SAP ABAP systems in order to identify successful AI scenarios together with end users.

What are so-called headless apps with SAP ABAP?

By headless apps we mean applications that are operated exclusively through AI chatbots - as a new user interface for SAP. In the context of the "Autonomous Enterprise", SAP has called its interpretation "appless".

Especially in the SAP environment, the question increasingly arises as to what role classic interfaces will play in the future and how modern AI workflows can change business processes. These are precisely the questions we want to discuss and try out in practice together with you.

Who is the workshop suitable for?

The workshop is aimed at consultants and developers from the SAP ABAP environment with an interest in AI and modern application scenarios. Development knowledge in ABAP is helpful but not a prerequisite. There will also be practical exercises that do not require development.

We want to encourage exchange and collaboration among participants. You are therefore welcome to come as a team.

What can you expect?

The focus is on practical applications and real user scenarios. Together we will address the question of how companies can arrive at meaningful and tangible prototypes with AI more quickly.

We offer the workshop with three focus areas:

• a) Focus on Design Thinking: creative workshop and development of AI ideas in the group
• b) Focus on ABAP development: the MCP protocol from an SAP ABAP perspective with examples
• c) Focus on AI solutions: product training, e.g. SAP Joule, Microsoft Copilot (in preparation)

For in-house training, the content can be arranged individually and content from other training courses can also be integrated.

Prerequisites & required software

An interest in AI and the technical concepts behind it is sufficient as a starting point.

Helpful, but not strictly necessary, is free access to:

• Microsoft Copilot
• Google Gemini
• OpenAI ChatGPT or another AI that enables text and image generation.

During the workshop, we will install additional free software on the participants' laptops. Installation rights on your own device are therefore required.

Optionally, SAP ABAP prototypes are possible in the customer's own systems. In addition to technical access (via VPN, etc.), this requires extended authorizations for developers and administrators. We show participants how to configure our ABAP examples in their own SAP systems in order to, for example,

We send participants information in advance about which preparatory activities should be completed beforehand. Above all, this includes the time-consuming download of local AI models for our practical exercises.

In-house workshop & open training

We offer this workshop both as an in-house workshop and as an open training. In the in-house training, our examples can be prepared in advance for the customer systems and are thus available after the training. In addition, individual focus areas can be arranged.

The workshop thrives on trying out, discussing, and developing ideas together. That is why we deliberately opt for an on-site format with workshop and hackathon elements.

Practical workshop instead of pure theory

The workshop thrives on group work, discussions, and practical exercises. We want to find out together with you how AI can be used sensibly in everyday business operations. Especially in combination with existing SAP ABAP systems and real user scenarios.

Our examples are carried out with open source and local AI.

At the end of the workshop you will know:

• how modern AI concepts work
• how to identify AI potential together with users
• how to quickly develop initial AI prototypes
• and how to develop meaningful AI scenarios before you even have to decide on a specific AI platform.

With the knowledge from our workshop, you can discover AI together with your users and discuss promising use cases. Only then follow the technology selection and the associated costs.

And the best part: After the training you will receive an "AI competency certificate" from us. This fulfills the obligation under the EU AI Act, Article 4 of the AI Regulation, and takes care of the documentation requirement.

About open training

Wir veranstalten Offene Schulungen als ein- oder zweitätige Veranstaltungen. Diese sind auf unserem Veranstaltungskalender veröffentlicht.

Der Schwerpunkt wird vorher festgelegt, z.B. ABAP Entwicklung. Bei eintägigen Workshops (z.B. im Rahmen von Community Konferenzen) werden die Inhalte etwas gekürzt. Das Nachvollziehen der praktischen Übungen ist nur auf eigenen SAP ABAP Systemen möglich und für den Workshop optional.

Den Teilnehmern steht unser Trainingsportal mit Präsentationen, Aufgaben und sonstigen Inhalten auch nach der Veranstaltung zur Verfügung.

• Interest in AI scenarios for end users
